In an interview with CNBC's Emon Javers, Microsoft President Brad Smith spent some time discussing the controversy surrounding Activision Blizzard and how the presumptive parent company plans to address rampant workplace culture issues. Smith responded with several choice quotes, calling on Activision Blizzard to make workplace safety and culture a top priority every single day until their deal closes, at which point Microsoft intends to make the same commitment.
Javers, CNBC: What's Microsoft going to do to fix that going forward, if you are able to take over the reigns at Activision?Smith, Microsoft: I think if there's one thing we've learned about addressing issues of sexual harassment, or almost any issue of culture for people, it really requires a combination of commitment and humility. You've gotta be committed to making things better. We're looking to the leadership team at Activision Blizzard today to make culture and workplace safety a top priority, every single day until the day when this deal hopefully closes, and then we'll take over, and we need to make that same commitment. But I also think humility matters. The day you think you're done, the day that you think you can declare victory, is probably the day when you sacrifice the very values that you're hoping to promote.
