The Black Phone, out in theaters on June 24, is the latest team-up between the dynamic duo that crafted 2012's horror hit Sinister. Writer-director Scott Derrickson returns to his thriller roots alongside co-writer C. Robert Cargill is a film that provides the chills that fans can come to expect from Blumhouse Productions. Adapted from Joe Hill's 2004 short story, the movie centers on a kidnapped child and a mysterious phone.
Mason Thames, who has been in For All Mankind and Walker, plays Finney Shaw in his first film role ever. After being abducted by a terrifying killer called The Grabber, Finney begins receiving phone calls from past victims while trapped in the basement. Meanwhile, his sister Gwen (Madeleine McGraw, Secrets of Sulphur Springs) is doing her best to find him from the outside with a little help from her psychic dreams.

Screen Rant spoke to Thames and McGraw about their fondest memories during the filming of The Black Phone, who was really on the other end of the line, and how different Ethan Hawke is from his character — thankfully.
Screen Rant: I love you two as siblings in this movie. How did you connect as siblings off-screen? Did you guys do any particular bonding activities to come together?
Mason Thames: Yeah. We tried as much as we could, because this was the height of COVID. So, we tried to hang out as much as we could. Every night or two, we'd hang out for dinner.
Madeleine McGraw: We would also throw the football around on the beach along with the rest of the cast. We all got along so well and so fast. It was awesome; it was great.
