In the previous game, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, two forms of multiplayer modes were available, but both could only be accessed offline. The first was a local co-op mode where players could team up and take on a number of strategic challenges. The other was a local versus mode, where the players could battle each other with various items that can be utilized to turn the tide of battle. With this sequel, however, associate producer Quentin Correggi confirms that multiplayer is being scrapped entirely for Sparks of Hope.

In a recent interview with Nintendo Everything, Correggi notes that Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope was always planned as a single-player adventure.
