After years of relatively dull LEGO video games, it seems that Traveller’s Tales have finally knocked it out of the park with the release of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga — not only has the brick-building compendium seemingly won over critics and fans, but it debuted in the top spot of the UK Charts.
A Warner Bros’ published release, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga usurped Nintendo adventure Kirby and The Forgotten Land in order to capture the coveted No.1 spot. In fact, this latest release in a long, long line of LEGO releases has officially had the biggest UK launch in franchise history, beating out the previous record-holder — 2008’s LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures — by around 9%.
As noted by GamesIndustry.biz, in terms of physical sales, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the second fastest-selling game of 2022 to date, beaten out only by Kirby’s latest jaunt. While this may come as something of a surprise, it should be noted that not only is the LEGO franchise huge in Europe, but titles such as FromSoftware’s Elden Ring and Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West are far more likely to see success in digital form.
Elsewhere in the charts, the success of The Skywalker Saga helped boost sales for previous LEGO adventures, with LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO Jurassic World, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes titles all receiving sharp sales spikes. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is available now on PlayStation, PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch platforms.
