There have been some images doing the rounds on social media recently which show concept art for one of the most famous pieces of artillery in 2004's Half-Life 2. The gravity gun is probably one of the craziest weapons in any FPS title, with the ability to lift objects that can then be hurled at advancing enemies. Of course, as with any video game or indeed any piece of entertaining media, it didn't begin life looking the way it did in the end, as long development cycles often mean that things get changed over time.
Inevitably, when talking about Half-Life, there will be some discussion on whether or not a new entry in the main series will ever see the light of day. The third installment is one of the most anticipated threequels in gaming, but it seems almost certain that Valve is not going to continue the exploits of the mute scientist-cum-fighter of aliens. It's a bit of a shame, especially considering that Episode 2 ends on a pretty significant cliffhanger and fans have yet to find out what happens in the story after the closing credits begin rolling.

As sad as it is that a third game will likely never get made, there's still Half-Life 2 and there's still the immense fun to be had with the gravity gun. As spotted by The Gamer, a user on Twitter who goes by Richter Overtime has posted some images that show a version of the gun from 1999, five years before the game was released. It depicts the weapon as something a bit more chunky, with a somewhat more «alien-esque» vibe about it. It's believed to be based off the concept art of one of the sequel's cut characters, Eli Maxwell.
