Modern Warfare 2 is set to be the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise. So far, we have seen a reveal trailer and some gameplay from a campaign mission. Also, Activision confirmed that Warzone 2 is in development. Thanks to some recent leaks, we have been able to gain some more information on what the new era of Call of Duty could look like. One of those leaks pointed towards the development of a third standalone and free-to-play DMZ game mode. However, it is time to throw everything you thought you knew out of the window. A recent leak claims that Modern Warfare 2‘s DMZ mode will not be free to play after all.
In previous reports, the DMZ mode has been compared to an Escape from Tarkov-type game. Various leaks claimed it would be a free-to-play mode or release that stood separately from Modern Warfare 2, just like Warzone. However, the latest information disputes this claim.
Industry insider Tom Henderson has reported that the upcoming DMZ mode is not free to play, and it will not launch in 2023. It will supposedly be just another game mode which will release later this year with Modern Warfare 2. According to Henderson, the previous rumors about the mode has frustrated the development team as now some players believe that the mode could be something it’s not.
It seems that the leaks surrounding the DMZ mode are currently up in the air. Without confirmation from Activision, we do not know for sure what they have planned in regards to the DMZ element of the game. We are just a few months away from Modern Warfare 2‘s October 28 release date. Therefore, we should hear more details about Modern Warfare 2 and the leaked DMZ mode in the near future.
