The Nintendo 3DS was a pleasant surprise, in retrospect. While it was the next iteration of the wildly popular DS, it still shone with plenty of merits. Its library of exclusives ended up on-par or better than the Wii U’s, with a few key games like The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and several Pokemon titles. Many Nintendo fans were glad to see the Switch unite Nintendo’s console and handheld development efforts, but there is still reason to go back to the 3DS for the handheld's library. Some experiences can’t be replicated anywhere else, such as Kid Icarus: Uprising: the third and latest title in the Kid Icarus franchise.
Released on March 23, 2012, exclusively for the 3DS, this was Masahiro Sakurai’s last directorial role before he focused all his effort on the Super Smash Bros. series. His last role on a non-Smash project before Kid Icarus: Uprising was as a designer on 2005’s Meteos, meaning Uprising is a rare breed. The game has a small, hardcore following due to its quality, but a fair bit of controversy surrounds it. Kid Icarus: Uprising has control issues owing to its hardware, and now that it is celebrating its 10th anniversary, the game needs a console port to shine brighter than before.
