Amid rumours of a Jio laptop finding no takers in the wake of 5G launch in India, Reliance Jio may have quietly revealed its first laptop, albeit in a rather weird way. The JioBook laptop has been listed for sale on the Indian Government's eMarketplace and you can buy it today, provided you are a reseller. The laptop is still not available to end consumers and only resellers can buy it in a minimum consignment quantity of 1 piece. Jio hasn't announced anything on this front.
Based on the marketplace listing, the JioBook essentially falls in the category of netbooks. This means the laptop is primarily built keeping in mind the educational needs of students. The price tag on a single piece states Rs. 19,500 and there in only a single variant. Similar to the JioPhone Next, it comes in a dark blue shade. The JioBook appears to be an entry-level Windows laptop with bare minimum specification to function as a netbook. The listing states that the laptop runs on JioOS, which is rumoured to be a modified version of Microsoft Windows designed to run on low-end hardware. It was previously revealed that Jio was working with Microsoft and Qualcomm to make this laptop happen. Hence, JioOS could support some of the popular Microsoft apps optimised to run well with old hardware.
On the processor side, the JioBook is an ARM based laptop. Hence, the laptop relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset, which was popular with entry-level Android phones in 2020 and 2021. The chipset allows 4G connectivity, which allows Jio to bundle its 4G data services with the laptop.
