Instagram’s brings back chronological feed! Here’s what you need to know

Instagram has brought back the chronological feed mode! The Meta owned photo sharing app will be adding two new modes that change the appearance of the main feed, bringing back the much-awaited reverse-chronological view. The app has been expected to launch this feature for a long time now. The Verge has reported the new modes will change how the main feed works. Additionally, the feed is designed to “give users more choice and control over what they see” while using the app i.e, lets you ignore suggested posts and algorithmic sorting based on your likes and search. 

Instagram in one of its blog posts detailed description for the “Following” feed as “See the latest posts from accounts that you follow, in the order they were posted.” They also detail that the Favorites mode will allow users to start up to 50 accounts and posts as your favourite and then they will show up higher in the main feed. Users will also be able to view those posts in a separate “Favorites” feed. You can even make changes to the Favorites list at any time.

Instagram spokesperson Seine Kim is quoted by The Verge as saying “your Favorites list is private to you and will not be visible to anyone else.” In the press release announcing the change, Instagram head Adam Mosseri has shared that more recommendations will be added to the feed over time on the basis of users’ interests.”

While these features are rolling out, neither of these new feeds can be set as the default, at least for now. So every time one opens Instagram, the default algorithm-based feed will be displayed, and if to access the Following or Favorites feed, one will need to manually select them.
