Warning! Spoilers ahead forTop Gun: Maverick
Val Kilmer suggested Iceman's story in Top Gun: Maverick. Tom Cruise revisited arguably his most iconic role to date as Pete «Maverick» Mitchell in the Joseph Kosinski-directed blockbuster. While Top Gun: Maverick didn't bring a lot of characters from the original film, aside from Mitchell, Kilmer also reprised his role as Tom «Iceman» Kazansky in the project.
The Top Gun sequel had been delayed multiple times, but it's proven to be worth the wait, as evidenced by Top Gun: Maverick's glowing reviews. It sees Maverick back at TOPGUN teaching a new generation of elite pilots for an extremely dangerous mission. There, he meets his students, including Bradley «Rooster» Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of his former RIO, Nick «Goose» Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards). This isn't the film's only tie to the past as Top Gun: Maverick also tackles Mitchell's enduring friendship with Iceman. Unlike Maverick, who is still a Navy Captain, Kazansky was able to climb up the organization ranks, and in the film, it's revealed that he's the one who got Maverick the job back at TOPGUN.
