While a few HIMYM characters have now made their way into How I Met Your Father, a popular theory suggests that one new figure was already featured in the original series. When How I Met Your Father began, it was unclear how the two shows would connect to one another, with the only major link from episode one being the fact that Sid and Jesse were now living in Ted, Marshall, and Lily’s old apartment. However, as more crossovers continue, it’s been theorized that the groundwork for the future characters’ connections may have already been laid back in HIMYM.

After the majority of How I Met Your Father season 1 passed without seeing any of HIMYM’s original characters, the first official cameo occurred in episode 9 when The Captain and Becky – both of whom were introduced in HIMYM season 6 – were seen getting a divorce.
