FromSoftware's trailers for their upcoming RPGElden Ring have revealed the existence of many interesting characters with dramatic sounding names such as Godwyn The Golden, Malenia the Severed, and Queen Marika the Eternal. The most important character of Elden Ring's storyline, however, may well be a proud-looking warrior king named Godfrey — the founder of an immortal dynasty who was exiled from his own kingdom, an Elden Lord who became one of the lowly Tarnished. Godfrey isn't mentioned by name in any of the recent Elden Ring trailers, but certain press releases and developer interviews suggest he will play a pivotal role in the player character's journey.
«Grace» is a recurring word and motif in the story of Elden Ring, referenced in trailers, one that's also integrated into the waypoint mechanics of the Network Test's open world environment. Once, the fantasy realm called the Lands Between was united in peace through the power of the Demigods and the Golden Order, a magical and political state of grace made manifest through the mysterious artifact called the Elden Ring. Once, the player characters of Elden Ring were a part of this Golden Order, shining bright with power and glory. Then the PCs lost their luster and became Tarnished, a cursed group of people who were exiled from the lands between. Then, after the breaking of the Elden Ring, the Demigods tore apart their own kingdom in a series of wars referred to as the Shattering. The Lands Between and the people who called it home all fell from a state of grace, and the goal of most PCs and NPCs in Elden Ring is to somehow regain that state of grace.
