Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t release for another month but it’s already one of the biggest money makers on Steam.
Warner’s game is currently No.5 on Steam’s global top-sellers list, which is based on revenue rather than unit sales.
The only titles ahead of it on the chart are free-to-play, microtransaction supported games Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2 and Apex Legends, with Valve’s Steam Deck console at No.2.
That means that based on pre-orders alone, Hogwarts Legacy is the best-selling premium game on Steam, ahead of Modern Warfare 2 at No.8 on the list and FIFA 23 at No.10.
For the week ended January 10, Hogwarts Legacy was Steam’s eighth biggest revenue generator globally behind Steam Deck, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, Apex Legends, Modern Warfare 2, Elden Ring and FIFA 23.
Developed by Avalanche Software (Disney Infinity), Hogwarts Legacy is described as an open-world RPG that takes players beyond Hogwarts to new and familiar locations, as they “live the unwritten and embark on a dangerous journey to uncover a hidden truth of the wizarding world.”
Published under Warner’s Portkey Games label, the game was originally scheduled to be released in 2021, before being delayed to 2022 and more recently to early 2023.
The PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC versions of Hogwarts Legacy will be released on February 10, 2023. The game will then hit PS4 and Xbox One on April 4, and Nintendo Switch on July 25.
