Slytherins have a bad reputation in Harry Potter, and it looks like Hogwarts Legacy is going to continue their stereotype for being bad eggs. Every Slytherin in the game isn't likely to be a villain, but the recent State of Play presentation showed one that isn't exactly a model student. If players choose Slytherin once the game releases later in 2022, then they may find themselves drawing the ire of more of their peers than they had anticipated.
In Hogwarts, students are divided into four houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. Each one is sorted by the Sorting Hat based on their personalities; Gryffindor, for example, takes students with bravery and chivalry, while Ravenclaw has those with intelligence and a passion for learning. Those with ambition, resourcefulness, and leadership were placed in Slytherin. Players won't be sorted into houses in Hogwarts Legacy and will instead be able to choose which one they go to during the annual Sorting. Each house is named for one of the four founders of the school, who chose the qualities that they wished the members of their houses to possess.

Sebastian Sallow is one of the companions that were shown in the Hogwarts Legacy State of Play presentation. He's a Slytherin, and the gameplay reveal paints him as a troublemaker. Already, it looks like the game will continue the tradition of depicting Slytherins as bad seeds, which makes sense given that it takes place before the main Harry Potter series. Exactly how much hate there is for Slytherin house likely won't be known until the game's release, but it looks like it will be no small amount.
