Hideo Kojima has claimed that one of his next games is “like a new medium”.
Speaking in a new interview with The Guardian, the director spoke briefly about one of his upcoming projects.
“It’s almost like a new medium,” Kojima said about one of his upcoming games. “If this succeeds, it’ll turn things around – not just in the game industry, but in the movie industry as well.”
The designer added that the challenge for the unnamed title is building the infrastructure: “you can have successful experiments, but there’s a long distance between an experiment and a place where it’s something that becomes a part of everyday usage.”
The game in question is likely ‘Overdose’, one of two games currently understood to be in development at Kojima Productions. The second is presumed to be Death Stranding 2.
Kojima appeared at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase in June to reveal that he’s teaming up with Xbox Game Studios to make a game he’s wanted to make for a while, but was previously unable to due to technological limitations. “There is a game I have always wanted to make,” Kojima said.
He echoes this sentiment in The Guardian interview. “You can have successful experiments, but there is a long distance between an experiment and a place where it’s something that becomes a part of everyday usage,” the director said.
It was recently confirmed that actor Elle Fanning will appear in the next game from Kojima. The designer is now also teasing a second woman set to appear in the game, with another darkened image reading “Where Am I?.”
It’s believed this could be Margaret Qualley, who starred in Kojima Productions’ debut game, Death Stranding.
