Video game launch season is in full effect and in a few short days, Gotham Knights will launch on multiple platforms. WB Montreal has revealed a little more than a month after that, Gotham Knights will get a new mode called Heroic Assault. A way to play the game with three other people, although you still won't be able to play through Gotham Knights' story with more than two players.
You may have missed WB's Heroic Assault announcement amid all of the discourse surrounding Gotham Knights' fps. WB confirmed the game will be capped at 30fps and will not include a performance mode. Bad news for some, but Heroic Assault, and the opportunity to play a four-player co-op mode a month after launch, will hopefully be a silver lining.

As detailed via an updated Gotham Knights FAQ page, WB explains what exactly Heroic Assault will be. A new mode that will be added via a free update separate from the game's main campaign. The co-op mode will effectively place the four heroes inside an arena, tasking them with clearing a building one floor at a time with 30 floors in total. The assault will presumably get tougher as you progress up through the building.
As will be the case with two-player co-op in the campaign, Heroic Assault can only be played with others online. No local co-op for any of Gotham Knights' modes, and still no hint as to whether that will be any different in the future. There's also no clarification on whether all four players will have to pick a character each, or if you can all be the same hero. Probably the former.
