Thanks to the success of the part-reboot, part-sequel that was 2021’sGhostbusters Afterlife, Columbia Pictures have spun the franchise into overdrive with another movie that is being written by Jason Reitman, a new Netflix series, and two Ghostbusters video games that are deep in development.
This isn’t the first time the comedy series has been spread into different mediums. In 1990, Ghostbusters was released for the Sega Genesis at a time when the brand was everywhere. The platformer came off the back of the 1989 sequel and allowed players to choose to play as either Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman, or Egon Spangler as they hunted down ghosts from the movies and saved New York. The game was successful, although there was a big omission from the game; Winston Zeddemore.
Jason Reitman Teases Ghostbusters Sequel With Familiar Location
A group of developers has revealed they are working on a ROM hack of the Genesis original that will add in Zeddemore as the fourth playable character. The team made up of BillyTime, Master Linkuei, and Danilo Dais are working hard to not only include Winston in one of the better Ghostbusters video games but give the character his own unique characteristics. In the WIP video on YouTube, the team showcases that the newest Ghostbuster is stronger and can jump higher than the others and will come with the blue jumpsuit from Ghostbusters 2 as an alternative uniform.
The team is keen to highlight that although Winston takes the place of Egon in the character select screen, he isn’t a reskin of any of the other characters and has been coded from scratch. This is currently a work-in-progress effort, but the team of developers is working on the finishing touches, such as filling in the placeholder portraits
