WhatsApp has also been adding new features and tools to help the instant messaging app compete with other social media apps like Telegram and Signal. Now, a WabetaInfo report suggests that there is another feature in the pipeline which will soon find its way onto WhatsApp. It is none other than the emoji-inspired animated WhatsApp Avatars!
Meta has recently introduced 3D Avatars for Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram, which allows you to create and customize an avatar that resembles you. And now, the latest talk hints at the arrival of these Avatars on your daily messaging app WhatsApp. The WABetaInfo report suggests that WhatsApp is working on a feature which will let users replace WhatsApp profile pictures with animated avatars during video calls, in case the camera is switched off. Till now, it shows the profile picture of the user.
"In 2017, WhatsApp released its own emoji set on WhatsApp beta for Android, and it seems it’s not the only thing the company wants to create a replacement for," WaBetaInfo said in a blog post. This feature has been said to be in development for a long time, but still, it is not in its final form, as yet.
WABetaInfo shared a screenshot which shows that there will be a new option during your WhatsApp video call, which will let you immediately switch to your Avatar when a future update drops. All you will need to do is tap on the “Switch to avatar” option, and your profile picture will be replaced with your Avatar.
