The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series has already launched on Steam and mobile devices, but it looks like the collection may be on its way to Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
On Reddit, u/cefaluu shared screenshots from the ESRB's website highlighting listings for Final Fantasy one through six that add Nintendo Switch and PS4 to platform options. The original description for Final Fantasy 6 uploaded by Wario64 on Twitter only shows Windows PC.
Since the original Reddit post, it looks like the ESRB may have removed both consoles from all of the original Final Fantasy listings. As of IGN's review of the ESRB website, searches for games like Final Fantasy 4 only yield results for versions of the RPG already out.
Regardless, the ESRB's descriptions one way or the other don't mean all hope for console versions of the classic Final Fantasy titles is completely lost. Last year, Square Enix mentioned ports of the Pixel Remasters to more platforms could be possible based on demand. Since then, the company has wrapped up its staggered launches of all six games on Windows PC and mobile.
Given the timing, these listings seem all the more plausible. This week, on December 18, Final Fantasy will celebrate its 35th anniversary after a long year of surprising announcements. The official Square Enix hub for the series doesn't make any mention of Pixel Remaster news just yet, but there's plenty of time between now and Final Fantasy's birthday.
