Whether Soulslike fans are looking to build the best character from the ground up or use experimental builds, the Wretch is the perfect Elden Ring class to try anything with. While there isn't a particular «best build» for the Wretch, the class allows players to start the game off with a blank canvas at level one. Additionally, all of the Wretch's stats are at 10, and any build that players may want to try is more readily available. The only major downside to this class is that there is no starting equipment, so newcomers should avoid the Wretch during their first playthrough of Elden Ring.
Unfortunately, any melee-centric build is almost guaranteed to have a great setup already for any of the preset builds like Hero or Warrior in Elden Ring. Additionally, it's best to steer clear of any tank build when choosing the Wretch solely because there are already stats invested into that aren't required, such as mind and faith. Other classes like Vagabond and Bandit have their stats distributed according to their playstyles, so there isn't any reason to try to distribute the Wretch class stats in a similar pattern. Instead, players can improve upon presets like the Bandit and invest in stats that promote an all-encompassing playstyle. Though growth would be slow, weapon requirements and damage scaling can help direct players on the correct path.

Given the Wretch's equal starting stats, however, players may want to consider a Prisoner or Astrologer-like build in Elden Ring.
