At this point in your journey through Elden Ring, you might be looking for something that provides a little more variety to your combat. But setting down that +12 greatsword for a pike or a halberd feels like too much of a step backward. Instead, might I humbly recommend the Swordsmanship Mod to add some spice into your sword swings.
The Swordsmanship Mod is a simple collection of animation swaps. Mod creator Trollaxethrowerr took existing animations and remixed them for straight swords, greatswords, colossal greatswords, and katanas. The end result is generally a greater variety of strikes coming from more directions.

The best example of this is probably seen in the latest update to colossal greatswords. Before, colossal sword swings were essentially horizontal in front of the player at roughly chest level, which can make engaging airborne targets a bit tricky. But the Swordsmanship mod adds an overhead swing to the three-attack combo, giving players a much greater chance of striking targets both above or below.
The mod also adds a new animation for blocking with shields that actually makes it seem like your deflecting a powerful blow rather that does more than just pushing you back an inch or two. There's also a new block mechanic that allows you to negate all damage with a perfectly timed guard that can also stagger weaker attacks.
Check out the video above to see all these changes in action, then head to Nexus Mods to download the mod. Note that you'll need to install Mod Engine 2 from GitHub to install the Swordsmanship mod, and you'll need to launch the mod by clicking the "launchmod_eldenring.bat" file.
