In the previous adventures of Ascalon the Astrologer, the plucky Tarnished hero (and Elden Ring player character) explored the wet environs of the region called Liurna of the Lakes, discovering new secrets of Glintstone Sorcery and a mysterious library full of traps and trinkets. Now, in this latest adventure, a chance encounter with a black-smithing giant sends Ascalon the Astrologer on a collision course with Caria Manor – former home of the magic-wielding Carian Royal Family, now a desolate deathtrap scared by an old betrayal and and filled with opponents that prove to be quite a «handful.»
This article is the fifth installment of the «Lowly Tarnished» series, a set of articles about the narrative elements and cool secrets of Elden Ringdiscovered by one of the author's PCs - an Astrologer build by the name of Ascalon. Initially, Ascalon the Astrologer was a narrative device the author created to analyze Elden Ring's game lore in a new, refreshing way (while also personally avoiding spoilers). Almost by accident, the character of Ascalon took on a (fictional) life of his own, becoming a skittish but determined magical archaeologist who searched the Lands Between for evidence of the magic-wielding civilizations that existed long before the blossoming of the Erdtree or the rise of the Golden Order, two pivotal events in Elden Ring lore.
