Mental Abilities are passive buffs you can apply to your custom athlete in the Road to Glory mode of to give yourself an advantage over your competition. As you build a strong player, you can apply a limited number of Abilities to them before a season. As you progress through different games, you can upgrade or switch between these bonuses to maximize your character's potential.
Every Mental Ability only applies to the Road to Glory mode, where you craft a custom team to try and win the National Championship. Your goals are to take your athletes not only to the biggest tournament in college football but also into the pros. Depending on which team you're on, you could be trying to accomplish these objectives alongside many of the top players in .
EA Sports recently gave an in-depth look into the newest game mode for College Football 25, Road to Glory, which gives players an RPG-like experience.
You either get three Mental Abilities at a time with custom characters or a pre-assigned set of abilities if you're playing with a standard team roster. A standard roster just includes the players normally playing on a team that you would see in multiplayer modes. This could include defensive giants or offensive powerhouse rosters in , but your customization for Mental Abilities would be limited.
Not every custom character is restricted to just three Mental Abilities though, as Blue Chip and Elite prospect athletes can have more Abilities assigned. This does come at a sacrifice to other traits and stats, so be careful when choosing this route. Recruiting prospects can be a tricky process, as everyone has different Attributes, Development Traits, and Physical Abilities on top of the Mental ones.
Another tough part of the recruiting process is the Pipeline system in , which restricts how well players you can add to your team can do based on how close they are to a certain region.
