Video games can be a good way to learn about a few things, such as sports they're unfamiliar with, and even excel in understanding them. In the case of driving games, some people have vaulted themselves from the high skill level of games like Gran Turismo 7, iRacing, and the Formula 1 games into real-life seats of race cars. One game that may not come to mind when people think of «games that help people learn to drive» would be any games in the Grand Theft Auto series.
Given how reckless gamers can be in a sandbox with no consequences, it may not be the greatest place to hone a driving skill. However, one fan noticed a truck driver proudly claiming that a Grand Theft Auto game helped them learn how to drive.
GTA Online Player Points Out Weird Car Discrepancy
A Grand Theft Auto fan in India posted a picture in the GTA subreddit of a sign on the back of a truck that claimed, «Caution: I learned to drive from GTA Vice City.» It's a sign that is both hilarious and disconcerting. It's funny to any driver that is in on the joke with how recklessly Grand Theft Auto players can be with driving and causing mayhem. But thinking about it, a Grand Theft Auto game may be some players' first experience controlling a car. Not to say any of the Grand Theft Auto games are a stout substitute for a driving simulator, but it counts for something.
There are at least some basic things that carry over like acceleration, braking, following directions on a map, and being distracted on the road trying to change the radio station. But after those things, the human ego overpowers the impulsive id to keep people from ignoring the rules of the road and driving with sense and self-preservation.
