The Walt Disney Company may be sending some mixed signals. A recently issued statement from the company reiterates its support for the LGBTQ+ community, but it appears they will continue to support the Florida politicians backing the controversial “Don’t’ Say Gay” bill.
Passed late last month by the Florida House of Representatives, the Parental Rights in Education or “Don’t Say Gay” bill prohibits classroom discussions concerning sexual orientation and gender identity. The biggest proponent of the bill and its Senate sponsor is Ocala Republican Dennis Baxley. Baxley has a reputation for attempting to pass anti-gay legislation including laws to stop gay couples from adopting.

An article from IndieWire reports that Disney has allegedly donated to Baxley along with other politicians that have openly supported the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. In fact, the company has supposedly given money to every single sponsor and co-sponsor of the bill. Furthermore, it doesn’t look like the company will stop funding such politicians anytime soon.
Amid the controversy of this bill, Disney released the following statement to Good Morning America. “We understand how important this issue is to our LGBTQ+ employees and many others,” the statement reads. “For nearly a century, Disney has been a unifying force that brings people together.
