Deathloop has finally been confirmed for release on Xbox Series X/S consoles and Xbox Game Pass on September 20, 2022. Last year, after Microsoft announced its pending acquisition of ZeniMax and Bethesda Game Studios, there was much discussion about how the company would handle Bethesda's then upcoming PS5 timed console exclusives, Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo. While there has still been much mystery surrounding these titles' launch on Xbox platforms, Microsoft announced at the Tokyo Game Show that Deathloop is set for release on Xbox Game Pass with a big update.
Deathloop was first announced in 2019 as the next big game from Arkane Lyon, the studio behind the beloved Dishonored series. While there were only a few details announced, in 2020 it was revealed that the game would be a timed PlayStation 5 exclusive, meaning it would only be available on that console for at least one year. It then came as a shock when, in September 2020, Microsoft announced that it would be acquiring ZeniMax Media and its subsidiaries, including Arkane Studios and Bethesda. Later, Microsoft confirmed that it would honor timed exclusivity agreements with Sony, which included keeping Deathloop and Tango GameWorks' Ghostwire: Tokyo as timed PS5 console exclusives.
