Warning: Spoilers for Superman: Son of Kal-El #13 ahead
After her first comic appearance in last year's DC Pride 2021 anthology the fan-favorite Dreamer, first created for the CW's Supergirl and played by trans actress and activist Nicole Maines, is finally debuting in main DCU continuity in the pages of Superman: Son of Kal-El #13 written in collaboration with Tom Taylor and Maines herself. Nicole Maines has been given the unique opportunity to work closely with DC Comics to bring her original CW character, the first transgender superhero ever on TV, to life on the page, and this iconic trans superhero is about to make a huge splash in the DC Universe.
Dreamer, civilian name Nia Nal, is a powerful superhero with the abilities of precognition, dreamwalking, astral projection, and energy projection, and acted as a perfect complement to Kara Zor-El in the CW's Supergirl. Nicole Maines beautifully portrayed Nia Nal, inspiring many queer fans with her honest and brave portrayal of a powerful young trans superhero, which Maines meaningfully reflected on in her recent foreword for DC Pride 2022.
