The Dark Souls tabletop RPG seemed like a great idea for fans of the franchise at first as most FromSoftware titles transport players to a fantasy setting. However, unlike the kinder fantasy worlds of J.R.R Tolkien and Brandon Sanderson, Dark Souls is famous for having dark lore and a setting that seems to punish its inhabitants for even thinking of a better life. For fantasy RPG players who love grimdark settings, Dark Souls: The Roleplaying Game seemed to allow for a fresh and grueling tabletop experience.
However, Dark Souls: The Roleplaying Game didn't live up to the hype for many fans. Those in Europe and North America who'd preordered the collector's edition of the game received it early, and began to pick apart the Dark Souls tabletop RPG, finding plenty of bugs inside. From misspellings to rules that contradicted the game, to spells that became more difficult to cast the more a player progressed, the game had plenty of glaring issues that players wasted no time in pointing out. They criticized the game's developer Steamforged for its seemingly unfinished game.

Now, Steamforged has responded to the criticism of Dark Souls: The Roleplaying Game with an apology. The developer first thanked the Dark Souls community for all its feedback, stating that it has listened to the comments made and recognized the importance of the issues within the game. Rather than release online supplements and rule changes, Steamforged is offering fans a new copy of the printed rulebook which will fix the issues of Dark Souls: The Roleplaying Game.
