Crimson Desert was announced nearly three years ago at this point, and though it turned a few heads at the time with its promise of a sweeping, single player action RPG experience, the fact that there have been little to no updates on the game in the time since then has raised a few eyebrows. It turns out, however, that Pearl Abyss is finally ready to showcase the game once again.
Speaking recently during the company’s quarterly investors call (spotted by a user on Reddit), CEO Jin-Young Heo acknowledged that it’s been quite some time since Crimson Desert was last shown off, and confirmed that at Gamescom later this month, Pearl Abyss will be showing gameplay footage for the title.
“It has been some time since we first disclosed Crimson Desert, but for this long time, we have been working very hard, so the quality of the game has developed by leaps and bounds,” Heo said. “In particular, at Gamescom this year, we intend to disclose new footage of the game that will actually showcase the real gameplay of Crimson Desert. We will show you how Crimson Desert is being developed and perfected, and show you the level of quality that we’re aiming for.”
Gamescom is set to kick off with Opening Night Live on August 22. It remains to be seen whether Crimson Desert will be showcased at the kickoff event or Pearl Abyss intends to release new footage for the game in the days afterward.
Pearl Abyss has also reiterated that the game is being developed as a AAA experience for the console market. As for when it will launch, last year, Pearl Abyss confirmed that the game had been pushed back into the second half of 2023. There haven’t been further updates on a launch date since then, but perhaps we’ll learn more at Gamescom.
