Cody Rhodes is injured and unable to compete for WWE's unified championship, but he still has eyes on another prize. During the lead-up to Hell In A Cell, The American Nightmare injured his pectoral muscle while training. He went ahead and wrestled on the torn pec anyway, putting on a gutsy performance against Seth Rollins.
Following his Hell In A Cell victory, Rhodes needed to undergo surgery. It's unclear at this juncture just how long he'll be on the shelf. During promos, he's said that his timetable is at nine months, but he intends to return before that. In general, wrestlers and athletes who've suffered similar injuries have missed between six and nine months while recovering and rehabbing.

Prior to that unfortunate injury, Rhodes was getting incredible reactions during his appearances on Monday Night Raw. After leaving the company in 2016 and eventually helping get AEW off the ground, Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38, and it's that moment that is up for the WWE Moment Of The Year Award from ESPN. He tweeted from his @CodyRhodes about being a finalist for the award: "Truly a moment I couldn’t envision and a door I thought would never be open again A gigantic gamble and I went all in, wrestling fans returning that energy and seeing so many people vote for this moment fills my heart up Damn I love it! Let’s win an ESPY" [sic] WWE fans can vote for their favorite moment on ESPN's official website.
