Today during Capcom’s Online Program stream (that’s what it’s called!), the publisher confirmed that Mega Man Battle Network Switch online play is currently being worked on.
Here’s what they had to say right on stream: “We’re currently working on online functions such as chip battles and chip trading.” Simple enough! This will, in theory, allow players to confront each other just like back in the portable-versus days, and trade abilities with one another. Yes, it’s highly reminiscent of Pokemon, like many other portable games of that era. Capcom used the phrase “every series” when they were talking about what games would be impacted.
We had a few other bits of news too. On top of a fully voiced “3D” Mega Man main menu navigator for the main menu, extras include 1,000 illustrations and 188 songs across the represented games. You can find a reminder of what games are included in the Mega Man Battle Network re-release effort below. Capcom is calling the game a “two part” release, due out in 2023 (no precise date was provided in the stream today).
