It’s been something of a rough year for Activision’s marquee Call of Duty franchise. While the Sledgehammer-developed stop-gap title Call of Duty: Vanguard wasn’t likely to put up numbers comparable to the more popular Call of Duty: Black Ops andCall of Duty: Modern Warfare subseries, the sales figures for the latestCall of Duty entry have been disappointing nonetheless. That said, Treyarch, the team behind the game’s controversial Zombies addition, soldiers on, having recently teased the fourth and final map for the mode.
In a tweet posted on August 15, Treyarch declared that “Kortifex must die” and confirmed that the name of the forthcoming map will be The Archon. Greek for “ruler,” this seems to be a direct reference to the mode’s primary villain, though it could also refer to Zykov, the antagonist from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War who is said to have usurped Kortifex as ruler of the Dark Aether.
