BMW teamed up with AirConsole to offer access to casual games in its electric vehicles.
AirConsole is described as an online video games console(Opens in a new window) which runs games in a web browser or on a shared screen. Players control the action using their iOS or Android smartphone, and can play together for a local multiplayer experience.
"With AirConsole we will leverage innovative technologies combined with a broad variety of fun and multiplayer games. This will make every waiting situation inside the vehicle, such as charging, an enjoyable moment,” said Stephan Durach(Opens in a new window), Senior Vice President BMW Group Connected Company Development.
BMW is following Tesla's lead when it comes to offering games on the dash of its vehicles, but taking a different tact on how to deliver them. By teaming up with AirConsole, BMW can offer access to more than 180 games spread across multiple genres including racing, sports, co-op, puzzle, and quiz games. These aren't games you'll recognize, but should prove enough of a distraction while your car recharges.
Access to AirConsole will be available starting in 2023, and BMW says it "perfectly fits with the BMW Curved Display." Setting up a smartphone to act as a controller will be a simple case of scanning a QR code once you have the AirConsole app installed.
