Blizzard's Albany studio – formerly Vicarious Visions – is attempting to unionise.
That's according to the Washington Post, which reports that the developer's quality assurance department of around 20 members of staff has filed for union election with the US' National Labor Relations Board (NLRB).
If successful, this would be the second arm of Activision Blizzard to have unionised following the QA team over at Raven Software.
“I firmly believe that having the union is going to give us the power that we need to make our workplace better,” Blizzard Albany associate test analyst Amanda Laven said.
“It’s very exciting to go public with it and hopefully be able to inspire others the way that we’ve been inspired by Raven, and Starbucks and Amazon and all the unions that have come before us.”
Activision Blizzard has acknowledged this request.
“We deeply respect the rights of all employees under the law to make their own decisions about whether or not to join a union,” company spokesperson Rich George said in a statement. “We believe that a direct relationship between the company and its employees is the most productive relationship. The company will be publicly and formally providing a response to the petition to the NLRB.”
Vicarious Visions moved from Activision to Blizzard back in January 2021.
