BioWare just shared an update on its blog today. As befitting the company’s next big thing, most paragraphs were spent talking about Dragon Age 4 and how it’s currently “in the middle of production.” We’ll likely hear more about Dragon Age 4 through social media and blog updates as the year progresses.
But what about Mass Effect? BioWare studio head Gary McKay made it clear that fans of their sci-fi franchise will have to be patient.

"And of course, we’re also working on the next Mass Effect. The team, led by Mike Gamble, is made up of a team of veteran developers as well as some new, really talented people,” McKay wrote. “They are all actively prototyping new ideas and experiences. AAA next-gen games take a long time to make – and we know our fans may want them sooner. But our Number One priority needs to be quality, and that simply takes time to get it right."
McKay didn’t even hint at a release window, which pretty much tells us that Mass Effect 5 is a long way off.
But it is at least coming. BioWare even offered a teaser late last year in the form of a poster that fans think featured Grunt and Liara. BioWare also said that the next Mass Effect game is likely to use Unreal Engine rather than any of EA's internal game engines.
Mass Effect fans can at least look forward to a Mass Effect TV show courtesy of Amazon. Video game and comic adaptations are becoming a staple of Amazon Prime, with even Geralt himself looking to join the cast as Commander Shepard. Or perhaps we'll see Henry Cavill battle with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for the captaincy of the Normandy. It’s hard to say who will come out on top in that fight.
