After The Elder Scrolls 6 was a no-show at the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase this past weekend, Todd Howard has come forward confirming some of fans’ worst fears on its current phase of development. The Elder Scrolls 6 was first announced in 2018 with a very short teaser trailer that featured a simple title for the game against a mountainous backdrop. Since then, there have been Elder Scrolls 6 leaks about the game’s alleged location and political systems, but further official information has yet to surface.
Instead, Bethesda Softworks has put a lot of resources and media time towards the upcoming Starfield, the studio’s highly anticipated space adventure, which is often compared to Fallout or Skyrim in space. Starfield was originally announced the same year as Elder Scrolls 6 and in a very similar fashion. It took little more than the Bethesda logo and ominous images of space to get fans excited to explore the cosmos with the tried-and-tested Bethesda gameplay formula. Starfield finally revealed gameplay footage this past weekend but many Elder Scrolls 6 hopefuls couldn’t help but feel left out.

Unfortunately, the long wait for the The Elder Scrolls 6 could be even longer than originally believed, as suggested by Bethesda's Todd Howard, who recently spoke with IGN. In an interview that also confirmed the existence of Fallout 5, Howard mentioned that The Elder Scrolls 6, which was put on hold to focus on Starfield, is still in pre-production — four years after it was initially teased.
