Legendary JRPG developer Atlus is hosting its annual online player survey, and one question could see the mainline Persona series released on Xbox consoles at long last. What originally started as a spin-off to Atlus’s horror-themed Shin Megami Tensei series has grown a life of its own since the first Persona game was released in 1996, spawning several sequels and spin-off titles ranging from 2D fighters to dancing-themed rhythm games. The main Persona series is known for combining turn-based JRPG mechanics with social interaction, with players being able to tame and utilize a vast array of power creatures (dubbed Persona) in battle when they aren't bonding with a relatable cast of troubled Japanese teens to marveling at Persona's impressive anime-style visuals.
While the Persona series is largely known for its presence on PlayStation consoles, several of the franchise's most noteworthy titles have started making their way to other systems. Just last year, a remastered version of Persona 4 Golden was released on Steam, with rumors suggesting that it could also find its way to Nintendo Switch and PS4. There are also whispers of a multiplatform remaster of Persona 3 Portable, itself an updated version of 2006’s Persona 3. Earlier this year, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax was ported to PC, PS4, and Switch — though Xbox owners still can’t even play the original version through the Series X/S’s backward compatibility.
