Supporting the latest wireless standards was always taken at a snail’s pace by Apple, but with the iPhone 16 launch, the company has decided to take things up a notch and adopted Wi-Fi 7. In fact, every single model that was announced during the ‘It’s Glowtime’ event supports the new technology, bringing in a wave of improvements and advantages to the table.
The international Wi-Fi Alliance consortium unveiled the Wi-Fi 7 standard earlier this year, and it did not take for the iPhone 16 models to adopt it. Last year, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus were limited to Wi-Fi 6, with the more premium iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max supporting Wi-Fi 6E. Aside from giving all iPhone 16 models an 8GB RAM upgrade, Apple has also standardized Wi-Fi 7 for the entire lineup, but it is not just a name change, as there are significant benefits to using the latest wireless technology.
For one thing, you can expect an impressive performance dose, as Wi-Fi 7 can reach speeds of 46Gbps, while Wi-Fi 6E is limited to 9.6Gbps. This makes the newer standard five times faster, but it is not just the massive performance upgrade to look forward to, but also the reliability. Wi-Fi 7 operates on the 320MHz channels and combined with the 6GHz band, users can experience a stable wireless experience that is devoid of interference and lag. This attribute alone makes the new iPhone 16 models excellent streaming devices.
The bandwidth upgrade will allow users to witness a lower latency when using the Apple Vision Pro to mirror the iPhone 16 and stream through it, making it yet another improvement. However, it should be noted that if you want to experience such speeds, transitioning to a Wi-Fi 7 router is imperative but a pricey route.
