Apex Legends season 14, dubbed Hunted, is right around the corner. With Vantage entering the Apex Games, it'll be interesting to see how the meta shakes up. Her entry into it is a unique one, as she can collect more information than any other character, get to the right positioning quickly, and hit enemies with her unique sniper rifle. Vantage's lore, as a young survivalist, is just as interesting.
However, one aspect of her gameplay has drawn a little bit of critique since the latest Apex Legends trailer. Her running animation sees her draw her legs up high and hold her weapon up higher, sometimes almost seeming like something comical, a high-step run befitting a comedy game and not a serious first-person shooter. Sure, it can be comedic if looked at the right way, but there's a reason for it.
Armor Swapping is a Small But Important Part of Apex Legends' Gameplay
If Apex Legends gets one thing right, it's the identity and characterization of its legends. Wattson runs funny in Apex Legends because of her inexperience, which some have compared Vantage's running to. Every character seems to have a unique running animation, which helps bring out their personal lore and style. This includes Vantage too.
Vantage is in survivalist armor, pulled from older armor sets and what nature provides. Her home is the snowy, abandoned planet. She lifts her legs high when running because she is used to running in snow; she holds her weapon high for the same reason. It's the best way to travel this sort of planet in Apex Legends, or any snowy terrain anywhere. It's unique to her character, and it's great. It's funny from a certain point of view, but it's an act of survival from another.
