Since entering the industry back in the late 1990s, Mari Okada has become one of anime’s most prolific writers. She has dozens of screenwriting credits to her name on shows and movies that span a range of genres – from dark fantasies like Black Butler or Vampire Knight to teen dramas like The Anthem Of The Heart and Anohana: The Flower That We Saw That Day.
Okada was also the recipient of a prestigious Animation Kobe Award in 2011 honoring her contributions to anime screenwriting.
Okada made her feature-length directorial debut with the 2018 anime fantasy film Maquia: When The Promised Flower Blooms which received rave reviews and took home the award for Best Animation at the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival.
