Wonka Footage Description Teases Callback To Original 1971 Movie
New footage for Wonka shown exclusively at CinemaCon by Warner Bros. contains throwbacks to the original 1971 film. Author Roald Dahl first introduced the world to the characters of Charlie Bucket and Willy Wonka in his beloved 1964 children's novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Seven years later, Gene Wilder starred as the eccentric chocolatier in Mel Stuart's musical film adaptation Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and brought a whole new dimension to the colorful character. More recently, Dahl's original story was re-told through Tim Burton's 2005 directorial vision that adopted the name of the original book, and starred Johnny Depp as a much paler, more animated version of Willy Wonka.
