In the previous episode of Snowpiercer, Layton recovered from a coma after his fight-to-the-death with the traitorous Pike (Steven Ogg). Delving deep into his subconscious, Layton awoke to realize that his «vision» of New Eden was just a photo of a tree he saw on a calendar and that he made the idea of the promised land up.
