The Batman 2: Matt Reeves on if Robert Pattinson Could Become DCU’s Batman

comingsoon.net

has commented on rumors suggesting that Robert Pattinson’s Batman could be joining James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU. Reeves directed 2022’s The Batman, which starred Pattinson as the Dark Knight.

He’s currently working on a sequel to the movie, The Batman 2, which recently pushed its release date back to October 2027. Following the release date change, many DC fans loudly speculated that the delay could potentially be because Pattinson’s Batman is being integrated into the DCU.

There has been no official announcement about this at this time as nobody has yet been publicly cast as the DCU’s Batman. Speaking with Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz, Reeves was asked what his attitude was regarding the matter of Pattinson potentially joining the DCU. “It really comes down to whether or not it makes sense,” Reeves answered. “I think what’s been great is, there was really a kind of a story I wanted to tell — we’re calling it the Epic Crime Saga and all that — which is the thrust of what we want to do.

It’s been important, to me, to be able to play that out. James and Peter have been really, really great about that, they’re letting us do that.

What the future brings, I can’t really tell you, I have no idea right now, except that my head is down, now, about getting The Batman Part 2 shooting and to make it something really, really special, which, of course, is the most important thing.” Speaking with Horowitz in December 2024, Gunn confirmed that he’s “contemplated” making Pattinson the DCU Batman; however, he also pointed out that he “contemplates” and “talks” about everything. “I’m committed to both telling stories in the DCU and telling Elseworlds stories.
