Dwayne Johnson has opened up about the body suit he’ll be wearing in the upcoming, detailing just how long it took him to get into the suit that turned him into Maui.
Set photos of Johnson dressed as Maui have already surfaced, with Johnson seen in the large suit that’s adorned with all of Maui’s tattoos.
Speaking to Extra in a recent interview, Johnson initially joked that it was nice people couldn’t tell him apart when they first put the suit on. “That’s a suit that took a long time to put on,” Johnson said. “So, I’m so happy you said, ‘You bulked up,’ because when you say, ‘You bulked up,’ that means you couldn’t tell.” Johnson went on to say that the process of putting on the costume took “a couple of hours day every of transforming, putting that thing on,” and that the team behind the film initially tried to stop anyone from seeing him, but it eventually became inevitable. “We shot outside and when those pictures surfaced, I was like, ‘S–t, we got caught,’ cause we were putting up, like, walls so there was no paparazzi,” the actor added of the photos getting leaked. “But they got into boats and started shooting pictures.” Alongside Johnson, the upcoming live-action Moana film will star Catherine Laga’aia in the titular role, John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala.
