has been given a Paramount+ streaming release date. Released in United States theaters in November 2024, Gladiator II is Ridley Scott’s epic sequel to 2000’s Gladiator.
The new movie stars Paul Mescal, Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington, Connie Nielsen, and more. Per Deadline, Gladiator II will be available to stream on Paramount+ in the United States and Canada on January 21, 2025. “From legendary director Ridley Scott, Gladiator II continues the epic saga of power, intrigue, and vengeance set in Ancient Rome,” the official synopsis reads. “Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist.
With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.” Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Rax, and Derek Jacobi also star in Gladiator II.
The screenplay for the movie was written by David Scarpa, based on a story by Scarpa and Peter Craig. Scott produces the film alongside Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher, Michael Pruss, and David Franzoni, while Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald, Raymond Kirk, and Aidan Elliot serve as executive producers.
Gladiator II production designer Arthur Max told ComingSoon in an exclusive interview last month that working on the movie was “very daunting.” He continued, “The first one is so iconic and you don’t want to mess it up, you don’t want to paint a mustache on the Mona Lisa.
