Revealing details about the development of the sequel to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, series producer Yoshinori Kitase has revealed that the next title will not be exclusive to Sony’s next PlayStation.
In an interview with 4Gamer, Kitase said that: “No, you can rest assured about the next one.” The response came after a question about whether the third game in the trilogy will follow its predecessors’ trends.
For context, Final Fantasy 7 Remake was originally exclusive to PS4, while Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was exclusive to PS5 at launch.
These trends would lead some to believe that the third game would be exclusive to PS6. Kitase also likely means this to be in the context of how much time the development of the third game would take.
He has mentioned in the same interview that development on the third title has already been underway, having been kicked off right after the PS5 release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth last year, “So we’ve been developing it for about nine months already”.
