CBS Gets Restraining Order Against Sony Over Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy Dispute

A judge recently granted CBS a temporary restraining order to CBS, blocking Sony from being able to take over distribution of the iconic syndicated game shows and Wheel of Fortune.

The decision came on Thursday, when Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Kevin C. Brazile gave CBS an order that prevents Sony Pictures Television from assuming distribution of both shows.

Sony said earlier this week that it would begin doing so after it claims CBS breached a long-standing contract between the two, which caused CBS to file for a restraining order.

In a statement on the news, CBS said that it’s glad the restraining order was given, and that for now, it will continue to handle the distribution of episodes to local television stations. “We’re pleased the court issued a temporary restraining order against Sony’s unlawful actions,” said a spokesperson for CBS Media Ventures, the company’s syndication arm (via The Hollywood Reporter). “We will continue to seamlessly distribute Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!

to our station clients like we have for over 40 years.” In response to the decision, Sony said that it believes it did everything lawfully, and that despite the restraining order, implied that the company will continue to try and litigate the issue, before noting that this is not a final decision in any way.
