Sonic Generations is being delisted next month, but won’t be entirely unavailable

Sonic Generations is being delisted from digital stores next month, but players will still have a way to buy it.

In a statement posted on the official Sonic the Hedgehog account on X on Friday, Sega confirmed that the 2011 game will be pulled from stores on September 9, presumably to make way for its remaster Sonic X Shadow Generations.

However, it also stated that those who don’t have the game will still be able to acquire it through a new bundle, even after it’s been delisted.

It also reassured players of the Steam version, which has a small but dedicated modding scene, that mod support will continue to be enabled.

“We’re excited to share Sonic X Shadow Generations with you this October and see a new generation cherish this game as much as we do,” the statement reads.

“On September 9, the original Sonic Generations will be removed as a standalone title. But, we’ve heard your feedback, and want to help preserve the game.

“Therefore, Sonic Generations will still be available via bundles of other iconic Sonic titles on Steam and Xbox. Existing owners of the title will still be able to download and play, as well. Lastly, we are happy to confirm that mods on the Steam version will not be affected.”

The new bundle, which is called the Sonic the Hedgehog Legacy Bundle, will include a number of classic Sonic games for $59.99.

The bundle will include the following titles:

Sonic X Shadow Generations is an updated version of Sonic Generations, including new stages.

The original game sees Sonic and friends teaming up with their past selves, with the game playing out across two styles of gameplay: ‘classic’, which is mostly side-scrolling, and ‘modern’, which features 3D levels.

The new version will feature a “complete remaster” of Sonic Generations, with “upgraded visuals and new bonus content”, as well as new content featuring Shadow.
