Sony's The Woman King finished the theatrical weekend sitting atop the domestic box office standings with a higher than expected $19 million performance across its three-day opening slate. The Sony historical epic starred Academy Award-winner Viola Davis in the films leading role, alongside Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, and notable Star Wars star John Boyega. The Bythewood-directed film was inspired by true events in the African kingdom of Dahomey.
