Japanese video game company Nintendo seems to be quite upset with YouTubers using its video games’ soundtrack. Things have got so bad that Nintendo has recently hit a YouTube channel with a massive wave of copyright claims. The YouTube channel by the name of DeoxysPrime was hosting a ton of Nintendo tracks without permission. Now, the YouTuber has been slapped with a copyright infringement vase. The YouTube account with 165,000 subscribers has received over 500 copyright claims from the gaming company. Beating a hasty retreat, DeoxysPrime has decided to drop all Nintendo-related soundtracks from the channel. In fact, the channel removed the entire library of Nintendo music soon after having a dozen of its soundtracks blocked.
DeoxysPrime released a statement saying, “Effective immediately I will be removing all Nintendo music from my channel. With 500+ claims and a dozen soundtracks blocked over the last week it’s pretty clear they don’t want their music on YouTube. I’m sorry to everyone who enjoys their music but I don’t have much choice.”
The statement further says, “I have also shared even no intention of deleting my channel and the rest of my non-Nintendo soundtracks will remain up for the foreseeable future.”
Some of the soundtracks that were taken down include the Smash series, Donkey Kong Country games, Wind Waker, F-Zero series and most of the modern Mario and Mario Kart games.
This isn’t the first time that Nintendo has targeted a major music channel. Back in January, GilvaSunner too received over 1,300 copyright blocks. The YouTuber had reacted by saying, “I’m...not angry or surprised that Nintendo is doing this, but I do think it’s a bit disappointing there is hardly an alternative.”
